Primary Source of Rosa Parks
Rosa Parks was interviewed between January and February 1997 on a scholastic website by students. The questions asked were categorized by Life Before Civil Rights, Rosa Parks Role in Civil Rights, Civil Rights Today, and Other Questions. In this interview she told a lot about her account of life fifty years prior. One question asked her about her actions on December 1, 1955 when she refused to move from her seat for a white man. When the police asked her about her actions she replied with "Why do you push us around?" and his reply was "I don`t know. But the law is the law and you are under arrest." This interview was conducted, because she initially started the Civil Rights Movement. The children also asked about the bus boycott caused by her decision. Questions ranged from her childhood to today's society. Throughout this interview Ms. Parks seemed very happy to answer the questions of such interested students. She had one lesson she wanted to leave the students with and it was for them to stay in school and lead a healthy life. Ms. Rosa Parks ended the interview strong with her feelings of the death of Doctor Martin Luther King Jr.
