Adult Life of Rosa Parks
Rosa Parks grew up to be a leader of the Civil Rights Movement. Ms. Parks attended
Alabama State Teachers College. Then married Raymond Parks and joined the NAACP (National Association for the Advancement of Colored People). She boarded a bus and sat with a white man in the first seat, which was allowed until someone else who was white needed a one. When this happened she refused to move and was arrested. From her actions on this bus in Montgomery a boycott began and the Civil Rights Movement was kicked off. "Later in life she served on the staff of U.S Representative John Conyers." After Raymond died she began the Rosa and Raymond Parks Institute for Self-Development. Rosa has been presented the Presidential Medal of Freedom in 1996 and the Congressional Gold Medal in 1999. Sadly, she died at age 92 in Detroit, Michigan in 2005. Ms. Rosa Parks will always be honored for her courage and integrity.
